My concentration idea is to follow the 12 step program and how I interpreted in my life, through personal experiences. The process is to help people get through addictions and disorders, sticking with the steps starting at surrender, hope, faith, honesty, trust, willingness, humility, responsibility, accountability, awareness, patience and service. These are steps that makes a person face his or hers own truth, which is what I want to capture in my art.
My 12 pieces are based off of the 12 Step Program, which is a program used to help overcome addiction and disorders. I have personal connections with my concentration idea and theme, from family having to go through this process, some completing it and some family members failing the steps all together. I used all kinds of media to help show my own relationship; with my pieces, because this is my idea on how I see the steps. Surrender (1) and Hope (2) are both made out of clay to show how fragile and vital these to first steps are. When I’ve had my own experience with them, this is where I’ve seen people break and not be able to go one, which is why I thought they were the most important to represent in this way. All of these steps are important, but these two stand out because of this. I wanted to create art that showed what I have gone through and the people I love are going through, which is why I chose this idea.
